Make a difference to local mums by delivering wellbeing and resilience groups to pregnant women and new mums in Children & Family Centres across Bromley and Lewisham boroughs.
We are seeking volunteers to co-facilitate groups to help mums stay emotionally well, develop confidence and social connections during pregnancy, birth or first year post-birth periods (this is often called the perinatal period).
Your Skills and Experience
For volunteer facilitator roles, we ask that you:
- have good communication skills
- have personal experience of managing your own mental health difficulties during pregnancy or as a new mum
- are willing to talk from your own experience in an appropriate way.
Training You Will be Given
Successful applicants will be trained in different mindfulness, wellbeing, resilience and coping techniques and leading and facilitating groups.
To get involved in this exciting opportunity to develop your own skills as well as supporting local mums to look after their mental health, we are asking you to:
- attend training for up to three days during June and July (this will likely be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Orpington)
- deliver at least one 5 week course (up to 3 hours once a week) from September 2018
- be available to deliver groups within school hours during term time on:
- Mondays or Thursdays (Bromley borough)
- Tuesdays or Fridays (Lewisham borough)
All of our courses run over school term time during the day in Children & Family Centres across the Bromley and Lewisham boroughs.
Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Reasonable expenses will be paid.
What volunteers say about volunteering with Mindful Mums
“I have enjoyed the opportunity to speak with new mums and share experiences, challenges, joys and despairs. For the first time in a long while I have felt useful, that I have possibly something to give from the experiences that I have had in my life. I have gained a sense of purpose and wellbeing from being able to volunteer and give something back to the community through supporting mothers. I am proud of the way that the mums engaged in the sessions that I facilitated and the amazing response they gave in feedback. I was proud that they found the delivery of the course beneficial.”
“I do not regret volunteering for this project one bit, if anything I don’t know what I ever was waiting for. I was convinced that anxiety would never leave me but this [Mindful Mums] has changed that. I have stepped into this beautiful world of lovely people and such positivity and light. I have gained reassurance in myself and confidence that I am not alone in my problems and to hear I have participated in impacting someone’s life in a positive way is the best feeling in the world, as much as motherhood alone. I have met lovely staff and volunteers that have reminded me that there are good people in the world. It has reminded me of who I am so much more and what I feel I can achieve in life.”
